Battle Creek, Mich., October 14, 2009 – Battle Creek Area Credit Unions recently presented a $3,000 check to the SAFE Place Shelter of Battle Creek. This marks the 10th year the Battle Creek Area Credit Unions have donated to SAFE Place, which brings their combined donation amount to $30,000 over those years. Area Credit Unions include: Battle Creek Area Community FCU, Grand Trunk Battle Creek EFCU, Kellogg Community FCU, Marshall Community CU, OMNI Community CU, Post Community CU, and United Educational CU.

“Through the cooperative efforts of the Battle Creek Area Credit Unions we are able to make a difference in the communities we serve” said Tracy Miller Chairman of the Battle Creek Chapter of Credit Unions. “This donation also supports the founding principles of credit unions, and that is People Helping People.”
“SAFE Place is, unfortunately, one of the largest and busiest shelters in the state. Our average nights of shelter increased by 44% last year and approximately 50% of our shelter residents are children. At a time when donations are not only down, but so desperately needed, these dollars will immediately be utilized to help the domestic violence crime victims that we are so privileged to serve” said Jennifer Fopma, SAFE Place Shelter director.
Battle Creek Area Credit Unions provide low-cost financial services to over 95,000 members across Southwest Michigan. For a credit union near you, visit www.lovemycreditunion.org.
